In Western thinking Muslims are considered conscious actors when committing honor killings. But that is fallacious thinking. They have not the slightest idea of what they are doing. That is the subject of this article.
According to Muslim males, honor killings are meant to reinstall 'the honor of the family'. This honor concept is based on earlier religions and goes back to the first hominids, to Australopithecus, seven million years ago:

According to Muslim males, honor killings are meant to reinstall 'the honor of the family'. This honor concept is based on earlier religions and goes back to the first hominids, to Australopithecus, seven million years ago:

In fact, Muslim males are right in seeing 'honor of the family' as having something to do with honor killings. But they are unable to describe exactly about cause and effect. Their whole thinking about honor killings is blurred and suppressed into their unconscious as an uncontrolled mediated process:

The ancient link (explained below) between 'honor of the family' (fertility stress) and 'honor killings' goes along 'inbreeding', but this link is buried deeply into the unconscious of the Muslim mind:

'Inbreeding' is the central theme in honor killings. Though on its turn 'inbreeding' is but the stimulus to the response of 'earthly reincarnation'. The latter is a paradigm shift in religious thinking invented by Homo erectus (2.2 Million years ago). Explained below. Therefore, nowadays Muslim males need inbreeding (cousin marriages) to reach earthly reincarnation:

'Honor killings' were originally used to protect the 'honor of the family' (fertility stress), for example as a punishment for girls refusing to have sex with their brothers (Australopithecus, 7 million years ago). But with Homo erectus their refusal would not block group fertility any longer in the first place, but 'earthly reincarnation' from ancestors.
So, from 'fertility stress' (Australopiths) to 'earthly reincarnation' (Homo erectus) marks the evolution of honor killings as a punishment. Now, realize these kinds of honor killings will not have happened much in those eras, because females were very obedient in the evolution. If girls understood the reasonableness of fertility stress and earthly reincarnation, they normally agreed in history.
Only now for the Muslim population we have the problem that besides Muslim fathers, also their daughters have no idea where cousin marriages are meant for. And therefore, since 1400 years there have been millions of honor killings, simply because ignorant girls refuse to serve as an incubator for family semen any longer.

This S-R chain is a mess and must be rotten.
Why do Muslim males suppress the real reason for honor killings: earthly reincarnation? Because the latter is at odds with resurrection in the parallel universe of Allah. In the last 1400 years, believing in earthly reincarnation meant hanging as a death punishment for not being a real Muslim. This explains the suppression of the link between cousin marriages and earthly reincarnation in the unconscious of Muslim males.
Now, already here we can conclude that Muslims must come to realize again the connection between 'earthly reincarnation' and 'inbreeding'. This to prevent psychosis as a reason for further honor killings.

And that's why the Muslim culture is growing at a faster pace than other cultures. Well, its more complicated. The key is 40% inbreeding vs. 60% more or less outbreeding to go not extinct as a population.
We conclude that Muslims are right seeing 'honor of the family' (fertility stress) as the original reason for cousin marriages and as a cause for honor killings if daughters refused forced marriages. But even nowadays, when the Muslim population is booming, cousin marriages remain very popular and without a clear reason. Therefore we conclude that this ancient instinct is out of function in these days of Muslim overpopulation. So, honor killings must be based on another still unrevealed instinct (inbreeding leading to earthly reincarnation).
This means in the evolution there have been several now unconscious reasons for honor killing.
It all is somewhat more complicated because a second ancient instinct (reincarnation) interferes with the first (fertility stress). Next, we develop the interaction between 'fertility stress' and 'earthly reincarnation'. That will become a full blown conflict (not shown here). And after that we will develop a three-way interaction with 'resurrection'.
Earthly reincarnation through inbreeding
Homo erectus discovered earthly reincarnation about 2.2 million years ago. Earlier Homo naledi believed in 'rebirth without soul' and it all started with 'genetic immortality' from Australopithecus:
Earthly reincarnation was a paradigm shift in religion. No longer bipedal primates died forever. No longer did they find comfort in giving their genes to descendants called 'genetic immortality'. No, ancestors would live forever in the universe and reincarnate into their own tribe. But there were stringent conditions. Ancestors refused to reincarnate into hostile other tribes. And for that reason the genetic constellation of their own tribe had to remain pure and unchanged. And, of course, that meant cousin marriages whenever and wherever possible, as far as not dying out as a group:

See the Serpent as a member of another tribe and the apple from Eve as the hybrid.
Then we understand what God meant with:
15 And I will put enmity between thee [the Serpent] and the woman [Eve], and between thy seed [your tribe] and her seed [her tribe]; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Now realize this narrative comes from the era of earthly reincarnation, which confounded with 'genetic immortality', but not yet with 'resurrection in the parallel universe of Allah'. This means Genesis is from before the invention of the parallel universe from Homo sapiens. There also is no heaven in Genesis, other than the ceiling of the world. And God was somewhere since he rustled the leaves of the trees. Not in the parallel universe, unless confounded with the Earth.
Hybrids
But it was very complicated. Women who had been adulterous with males from other tribes were stoned, since no ancestor wanted to reincarnate into a hybrid. After accidentally reincarnating into hybrids, Muslim males could never return into their family after their next death and were condemned to roam as ghosts through the universe forever.
And there were more complications. If a young girl was raped by a stranger, she was stoned immediately to prevent an ancestor to reincarnate into the fetus.
And more and more. An abortion from a fetus with a member of another tribe meant first an ancestor had become hybrid, but secondly he had been murdered. So, abortion meant stoning as well.
Refusal of cousin marriage was suspect, just like suspicion from adultery with non tribal males: stoning.
Even a Western lifestyle was a clear indication to adultery:
Therefore, nowadays Muslim women can still be killed on the slightest suspicion of adultery with aliens from other tribes (the Serpent), or because of an adulterous Western lifestyle, or after being raped or after an abortion from a non tribal member. Abortion means a tribal ancestor has been killed in that hybrid's body. That alone deserves the death penalty.
