God could exist in a parallel universe, and then we wouldn't see him. But if he doesn't exist, he's just a sexual role in the amygdala. God is always present in us.

So, as a sexual role he serves as our Super Ego, a guiding principle in our 
unconscious amygdala.

But our Super Ego has also an image from the amygdala in the neocortex, It is a psychologically created fantasy figure that shows us to behave religiously.

And so we are actually crawling in shame before our own not existing fantasy God...

Our Super Ego serves as a moral counter balance in the consideration of intended behavior. It is the mirror of inherited God experiences over millions of years. It is as if Gods warn us not to jump from the rocks. Or just orders to kill a woman for perpetual male orgasm in the afterlife:

There are amygdala Gods who want people to kill unbelievers to enter heaven. 

But other Gods say people will only go to heaven if they allow themselves to be slaughtered by unbelievers. 

These are Gods from complementary religions: sadism and masochism, where 'religions' are sexual cultures.

And here follows the Super Ego from Christianity in the neocortex. It is too young to already be a full grown sexual instinct in the amygdala. But on the other hand, Desert Religions (10 Ka; 1350cc) already laid the foundation for male masochism in addition to female masochism since the first bipedal primates (10 Mya; 300cc), which discovered SM-dyad for their fertility boost:

After millions of years, the remnants of a whole host of evolutionary gods condensed into our amygdalae, capable of haunting us day and night:

They are never aligned and speak in a Babylonian confusion of tongues. And that happens with all religions (read: sexual cultures) which are completely intertwined with previous Gods of evolution.

The best example is Islam, because this religion is unable to eradicate earlier evolutionary sexual instincts, such as inbreeding. Therefore, Gods of inbreeding (reincarnation, amygdala) must now compete with Gods of outbreeding (resurrection, neocortex), leading to honor killings. So honor killing is actually a sexual conflict between the amygdala and the neocortex, which is why Muslim males do not understand it:

Brothers cannot already have a reincarnation psychosis at the time they murder their sister and be held fully legally and morally responsible:

Islam cannot replace reincarnation through inbreeding (Islam) with resurrection through outbreeding (Christianity), because reincarnation is a sexual instinct in the amygdala and resurrection only a word in the neocortex. Resurrection has no power over reincarnation as sexual instinct.

Religious scriptures from religions like Christianity and Islam have become quite incomprehensible and susceptible to magical thinking. These are Desert Religions par excellence.

So we have a problem because these religious constellations do not really exist, but nevertheless drive our behavior all day long. Our behavior is distorted by instincts of which we are not even aware they still exist.
