There is no universally accepted theory explaining the root of sexual masochism, however, several ideas have been advanced. One theory suggests that paraphilias originate when inappropriate sexual fantasies are forbidden, and become stronger as they are suppressed.

The above suggestion is also my explanation of what actually happens in Desert religions. But by that I mean masochism of male believers.
Sado-masochism originated 10 million years ago in bipedal primates. This is the only animal species in the world that combined masochism with sadism to stimulate sexuality and thus increase fertility.
Many millions of years later, Desert religions, par excellence, made a free experience of sexuality nearly impossible for believers. Abrahamic religions inflicted untold damage on the enjoyment of life, for those under their power. Especially the monotheistic inbreeding culture before Islam was a dark age in the evolution of bipedal primates. But Islam, too, still has much to do to free itself from its horrific predecessor.
Another point to note is that the enormous tragedy of the Muslim faith is caused by a lack of understanding of the origins of its own religion. Due to hereditary factors in the amygdala, numerous evolutionary and disruptive influences are preserved in the Muslim faith. These actually serve no purpose anymore but are nearly impossible to remove, only through outcrossing with outbred populations.
This blog unravels the evolutionary origins of the Muslim faith. It's a tragic and harrowing story. Misunderstood fragments of earlier religions led to Babylonian confusion of tongues that has been resolved with magical thinking. Entire nations have been plunged into misery, completely unnecessary and misunderstood. It's to be hoped that Muslims themselves ones will also make an objective analysis of their faith.
This all is much less the case in Christianity and almost entirely absent in polytheism of the ancient Greeks. This means that Muslims allow themselves to be unnecessarily burdened by their religion, which actually serves no purpose.
This hereditary burden ensures that influences from earlier inbred religions will never disappear, but will continue to play a disruptive and significant role in their current religion. It is to be hoped that Muslims will take another good look at the origins of their religion and compare it to outbred religions as Christianity:

No culture produces mentally healthy offspring by splitting conscience between the conscious and the unconscious:
Sexual behavior has been ingrained in bipedal primates for millions of years and has become part of the amygdala in the brain's limbic system. Therefore, it must have become hereditary.
I think there are two opposing amygdalae to explain honor killings for monotheism and polytheism, for inbreeding and outbreeding cultures, resulting from 10 million years of evolution.
In outbreeding cultures reincarnation cannot do any damage, that is to say, honor killings cannot happen.
This is because one is free to reincarnate into anything outside one’s own genome. Inbred and outbred populations must therefore be based on different amygdalae.
Then there will always have been at least two subspecies, even now with Homo sapiens (350Ka; 1350cc), which can integrate in the neocortex but cannot assimilate with different amygdalae. And then as a consequence, forced fusion will always led to civil wars in evolution.
Both sexual cultures, inbreeding and outbreeding have developed diametrically opposed hereditary approaches to the position of women in society and life's most important ethical questions. These are opposing moralities regarding the essence of human existence:

Remarkably, other animals experience sadism but not masochism. Only for bipeds this new combination became the catalyst to the overdrive in sexual orgasm. And so masochism became the hallmark of bipedal primates, administered by sadism.
Sexual group behavior, what we today call "religion", is distinguished by the relationship between sadism and masochism, the effects of which are different for males and females.
SM-dyad is the opposite of Vanilla-dyad, as monotheism is the opposite of polytheism.
SM-dyad leads to 'super religions' where Vanilla-dyad always loses out as 'inferior religions'.
Sadomasochism is how human religion should be understood as a sexual culture, which it essentially is.
And then Islam falls under monotheism, Christianity under semi-polytheism and the ancient Greeks under polytheism.

We see that sadism brings joy to males, but masochism in the inbreeding culture also satisfies females. And that's quite strange, because now we have to reverse everything: 'Leed' is lust in masochisme. Suffering must be seen as pleasure in masochism. Pain is lust in masochism. Because otherwise Muslim women would walk away from SM-dyad.
This means that crying and screaming women who are physically abused initially experience the fulfillment of pleasure. Only when death threatens does it turn into panic: dissolving SM-dyad in rape and murder again.
This also means that if 800 million Muslim women would leave their faith today, SM-dyad will be over tomorrow. This means that, in evolution, females are partly responsible for SM-dyad.
What I'm saying is that different feelings exist in the amygdala of inbred women than in outbred women. And that's why we can't help them. But they will help themselves with the disintegration of Islam for entirely different reasons. Islam will fall apart into 4 groups this century. To prevent that, the Muslim faith better relax its sadomasochism
and allow women to freely choose their partner.
